Go Through Your Excess

Excess clothes, excess shopping bags, excess safety pins, excess kitchen magnets.  I could go on and on with this list.   When you really stop and think about all the drawers and cubbies and closets that you may have an adundance of things taking up space.  Unnecessary, unneeded, unwanted things… it just might be time to go through and purge, merge and unsplurge.  Lol.

If you knew now how you would feel after all the undoing of years of doing…. You would have started already.  It’s hard to explain the freedom you get when you get rid of the extra things you don’t need, don’t use and don’t even like very much. It’s liberating, really.

It’s like explaining to your friend what it was like to have a baby… you don’t give it any justice.  Well this is what I’m saying about going through your excess.  It’s beyond words.

And you know the best part….after you get rid of the unwanted excess there is now space to bring in things that warm your heart.  Things that make you feel good when you look at them.  New photos, wood signs with your favorite verse, poem, scripture or quote.  There’s room for new makeup when you get rid of the piles of old.  There’s room for collecting wine corks to make a trivet if you get rid of the collection of plastic grocery bags.  Have you been wanting to make a jigsaw puzzle but there was never any room on the kitchen table?  Have you been wanting to buy some cool knee socks but your sock drawer is full to the brim?

Whatever it is that might make you smile…..bring it into your life.  But FIRST, go through the spaces that make you roll your eyes at yourself.  And during the whole process, laugh at it all and have fun.

Tell A New Story

Organize into a new story.

I can hear you now as you start to purge, declutter and organize your home…

”Oh but my son wore that when….    Oh but my daughter made that for me….  Oh but my mother, but my father, but my best friend, my teacher, me……”  or is it  “I got that at the fair… I won that for…. I bought that when…I made that….”

There goes the story you keep telling yourself about every THING you just can’t seem to part with.  It’s time to change the story.  Give it new meaning, give it a new ending, give it a new feeling, give it a new energy.

“Oh that was my grandmothers she’d be so upset if I got rid of it and…” “Oh that’s from when I was in kindergarten…” “I won that in a contest in junior high for…”

GENTLE REMINDER : If you part with the “thing” you’ll still have the memory in your heart & your mind.

Today….release what you can, keep what you MUST.  Begin to work through the barriers that keep you from being successful, that keep you from living fully and being prospering or barriers that simply keep you stuck.  Organize the piles, files and to-do lists.  Create new systems to keep things together. Begin a new habit of putting things where they go so you can find them when you need them.  Purge, declutter, organize one drawer at a time, one closet at a time, one file at a time.  Just be sure to begin.  Begin somewhere today so tomorrow has less stress less chaos, less drama, less burdens.  And for goodness sake when you hear the voice in your head go on and on about the What’s and Why’s and Who’s.  STOP!

Let it go. Free yourself. Stand strong & breath. Tell yourself a new story.

No More Tears

No More Tears

Tears….Lots and Lots of them…The other day I was talking to a client who was crying about her situation. I knew this was a desperate situation and I reassured her there would be no more crying when I was done.  She went on to tell me how ‘stuff was everywhere’.’ she has a hard time finding anything’, ‘it has never been this bad’ and ‘it’s going to take more than 4 hours of organizing!’.

We talked about the specifics of her home, what her immediate goals are, what she sees changing as a result of my coming and is she ready to purge.

She is very clear and very ready to have me come clean up the clutter purge the unnecessary and open up a harmonious space in her home for her to paint again.

Our conversation helped her see how her anxious thoughts, her heavy shoulders and her feeling of being burdened were a result of the clutter that was surrounding her.  It was an AHA moment for her.

No more tears here…just a smile and an eager client.

What’s The Condition of Your Space?

Did you know there’s a connection between the condition of your living space & surrounding environment AND your mood, productivity, creativity and stress level? A cluttered environment saps your energy and robs you of a creative flow, positive outcomes & precious time. Living in, or working with, physical or mental chaos… can change your mood like *SNAP* that!  And sometimes it’s a lot harder to deal with THAT than the actual task of organizing it all.  The connection happens unconsciously.  You don’t wake up and say, ‘my day is going to be havoc today’…it just happens.  As you go about your morning you find yourself asking…. ‘Where are my keys?’ ‘What did I do with that letter?’ ‘Where is Johnny’s other sneaker?’ And then before you know it, you’re behind schedule, talking to yourself and walking around in circles.

When you’re always looking for things that should be at your fingertips, you spend too much important & precious time looking.  Clarity replaces Clutter!!  We live in a society which places many demands on our time. And one thing is for sure….we don’t have time to waste searching for that one thing we need before we can walk out the door, that one folder we need for the meeting or the school papers Suzi needs in her backpack before the bus gets here. If you create a place for everything and put everything in it’s place …that’s better than half the battle…..it demolishes the battle.  You find things in a *SNAP*.

Whether it’s your office, kitchen, garage, playroom, kitchen cabinets, dresser drawers… whatever it is…. …. it’s time to get back on track with a more efficient, harmonious space AND the next thing you know… you have a more efficient, harmonious life!

Be aware of your condition and declutter what you can so today is a breeze.

Peace & Blessings,

Tracy
